Vintage 1970s to 1980s Gala Gown - UNBELIEVABLE Pure Silk Deadstock Couture Gown w Trained Sleeves Size M to XL

Truly glorious and unusual deadstock and unworn custom gown from a group we’ve been fortunate to handle, most with their original price tags of 1K+ still attached. This one is a jaw-dropping combination of a wine red glossy pure silk charmeuse satin that feels like liquid sin paired with an airy silk chiffon of dusky pink. The neckline is hand-beaded and festooned with large, faceted pink glass faux jewels. 

The sleeves are elegant, incredibly dramatic and showy, with an opening on each to slide an arm and hand through, and pleated “grips” to hold the extravagantly trained cuffs. By the way, yes, one of these trains is long enough to drape and puddle on the floor, an asymmetrical design that’s beyond intriguing to behold. Gently stretchy waist and beautiful skirt with a high side slit on the side opposite the longer train, for visual balance and xtra drama.

This photographs like a dream! The impression is ‘“Juliet meets diva meets red carpet,” but on hyperdrive. Extremely well-made, this couture piece does not retain its price tag, but presumably it was even more expensive than some of the less-embellished (but still gorgeous) gowns we’ve handled from this group.

About a modern roomy M to smaller-busted XL. Please allow room for movement and ease and the kind of fit you are going after. Plentiful fabric allowances inside give this one the possibility of alteration larger or smaller.

Bust (underarm to underarm measured flat, then doubled) to about 42" 

Waist about 34" stretches to 38"; easy to replace the interior elastic if you want it smaller/tighter

Hips to about 45"/46"

Shoulder to waist area about 16 1/2"

Shoulder to hem about 60" and has 1" hem 

Shoulders around 16"/17" would be fine

Sleeves about 18" to the sleeve opening where your arm comes out

♛Condition

Great vintage shape. Unworn, unused, and kept beautifully preserved. 35+ years old.

I found a tiny and faint trace mark on a sleeve (size of a pencil's lead) -- so minuscule, especially considering all this fabric involved. Otherwise, I saw nothing to report.
