RARE ca. 1950s to 1960s cusper (ca. 1961) red/white Mildred's of Hawaii men's cotton button-loop pullover shirt with a very rare Lahaina, Maui "Old Whaling Center" print.

The selvedge is signed "This design is the property of the Lahaina Whaling Spree Committee." From my research, this was apparently a yearly festival taking place in Lahaina. Guessing this was a uniform for fellas serving at the big event in some capacity or another -- at any rate, doubt there are many of these to be found out there. There are none online I could find to compare.

The print is a joy! Remind me of the Trader Joe's Fearless Flyer newspaper, with detailed old-fashioned scenes of all manner of whalers and sailors and babes getting up to no good. Topless mermaids playing ukuleles, hula dancers, a topless ship's figurehead, a polycule/throuple in the making, drunken fistfights, whaling ships and equipment, and a furious whale exacting its watery vengeance upon those who mean to harm it -- it's ALL here. ♛Condition

Great vintage condition overall. Cleaned, pressed, and reads as crisp + bright to the eye.

Nitpicks: a very faint hint of age toning still remains under a hula dancer's feet, the imperfection easy to overlook (see second-to-last close-up).

Also, there are Roman numerals faintly inked above label on inside shirt collar, not visible when worn. See last close-up.
