Sublime sculpted taffeta 1950s party dress with surplice pleated neckline front and back, hourglass-sculpted waist, extra-full skirt. Trimmed all ‘round the shelf bust seaming and the hip area with Greek key satin gimp + dangling little silk dingle-balls! (Okay, I’m sure there’s a less comedic term for it, but is there a more descriptive word? I think not!) 

Update from my deep dive into the archive: "ball-fringe" is another way to describe the trim. :)

•Designer/Labels: does not retain its label (boo!), but the quality and attention to detail is TOP-notch. Came with this week’s Suzy Perette. I have a strong hunch that this one, as well, is a Suzy P.  

I found multiple versions of a dress with the EXACT same "ball-fringe," all of them ca. 1953/54. The company produced up to 300 distinct designs at a time, so only a few are depicted each season in ads. All of the examples I found both in the archives and online are black, save one lighter blue version.

Shoulder to waist area about 17"

Great vintage shape. Cleaned, pressed. All the "dingle-balls" are intact! 75+ years old.
