An unbelievable, jaw-dropping vintage 1940s big-shoulder + nipped, belted waist wrap-around coat with red rear contrast vent -- complete with its matching original hood! Black wool sculpted perfectly. Mega padded shoulder, silky rayon lining, full skirt, and fancy brass + copper metal buttons, repeated on each cuff. Matching optional tie-neck hood reverses from red to black for further styling options. Contrast-trimmed hip pockets.

A goth dream-coat, femme fatale crossed with Little Red Riding Hood. Not perfect, which helps keep the price in check. But perfectly WOW.

Please allow room for fit and ease and any clothing layered under it. Should suit about S to M cusp. Dress form shown is an XS. Some natural give to fabric as indicated. Plentiful interior fabric allowances for potential tailoring larger or smaller.

Bust (underarm area measured flat on exterior, then doubled) to about 38"/tight 39"

Waist to about 28"/29" (measures more narrowly through its rear, defined waistline than it does across the front) then belt to fit

Hips to about 40"/42" 

Bodice, shoulder to tie at waist about 16"

Full length about 41 1/2" and has 1 3/4" hem

Shoulders suit about 16" - 17"

Sleeves about 24"

♛Condition

Sturdy, unfaded, and presenting beautifully, despite some imperfections. 75+ years old. 

Scattered small moth grazes and tiny dimples to the nap of this dense, textured wool, mostly concentrated at one shoulder and below pocket to side skirt. At least two pinholes go through the fabric, one located inside the rear contrast vent. Nothing jumps out at a conversational distance, especially in dimmer light or for evening events. Some tiny grazes are seen on the hood, mainly on red side. I took many photos so you can see how it presents to the casual eye, as well as close-ups I marked with pins to catch whatever I noticed at closer range.

Has been sanitized, freezer-treated, steamed by hand, AND run through a long cycle in our steam-cabinet. The works!

Age/patina to the metal buttons (which frankly is cool).

There are hidden interior waist ties missing the corresponding loop of thin braid. I'm leaving its remnants intact in case you want to add a replacement. Coat can be worn without it.

Note: hood ties are same length; it's one piece that threads through rear hood, drawstring-style.

Rare piece -- nothing remotely like it out there. If flawless, we'd ask at or around 1K. Sold as-is. It's ideal if you don't need "perfect," but want a coveted style at a much better price.
