Details

A study in fluid tension from the late 1930s, early 1940s, a rayon jersey knit gown in a great harder-to-find size. Hot pink, red, black, and forest green rose print, delightfully lurid (see close-up of print for a better idea of how the colors look in person...they really pop!). Self button trim for a "shirtwaist" look, can be worn open at neckline, too. Matching belt with green deco galalith buckle, sweeping gored skirt.

A "once in a lifetime" piece. For the price of two nice 1940s print dresses, you get the best.

Measurements

About a modern size XL; please allow room for ease and the kind of fit you prefer. Interior darts + allowances allow tailoring larger or smaller. Make sure you allow for enough room to get the kind of fit you like. This is a knit, and there is additional give to the fabric when pulled taut/tight, wherever indicated.

Bust (underarm area measured flat across front, then doubled) about 42" to 48" pulled tight

Waist (measured across front seam and doubled) about 36" to tight 42"; use belt to adjust to fit

Hips to about 56" - tight 60" (~10" from waist seam)

Shoulder to waist seam about 16 3/4"

Shoulder to hem about 46"

Shoulders suit about 16" - 17"

Sleeves about 12 1/2"

Condition

Great vintage shape, especially for this fabric. Perfectly vivid/saturated print.

Nitpicks:

There's a small, vertical mend on the underside of sleeve cuff. This was done by a former owner at some point.

I noted while steaming dress that the skirt's hem appears to have been ~6 1/2" higher at some point and then let back down, leaving tiny ghost thread-holes.

There are two small oblong holes and a tiny circular hole tucked within a natural fold of the skirt's hemline toward one side.

I took photos of everything -- none of these things stand out to the eye with that busy, bright print, dress must be inspected closely to find.

Last thing: belt had old stitches for a buckle but original buckle was gone; I added the perfectly color-matched, era-correct galalith plastic buckle shown.
